"Beautiful views of the mountains and walkable distance to Matsushiro Castle Ruins. The location is a bit far from Nagano City so I takes a bus to get back to city for more dining and nightlife options.

"Old Showa style minimalistic ryokan, but the room for 5 was spacepus (double room) and the tatami beds and beddings arw comfortable. Self-service to put the futon (which was no problem for us). Power plugs and Wifi were abundant. We were fine with steps but for eldery or disabled it may be a challenge. The hot spring bath was nice. The temperature may be on a hot side but i think it is pretty standard. The tub was indeed made of wood (I assume hinoki). The place seemed to have a fair number of...

spread had good variety & service was excellent. Though the staff can only understand limited English, it’s nothing Google Translate cannot handle. Extra perks includes shuttle service to train station, free drinks at lobby, onsen & yukata to wear. The perfect place to rest & relax."

"This is an airbnb/ hostel style. But the service and cleanliness and level of the people that book here are nothing like most hostels.
The host is AWESOME! She does everything to make her guests feel good and welcome.

You get tea and different snacks each day in your room, so if you're the type to want to take it easy inside sometimes on your trip, it's very nice to have some quiet time in your room and sip on tea and try the different local sweets they give you each day.

"What an unexpectedly seamless stay! There was a shuttle bus that met us at the Shinkansen station that took us to the Onsen. When we arrived, we were ushered to a comfortable lobby for check-in. The bellman showed us the entire hotel and onsen, and walked us through our kimonos and slippers. Lovely

"I knew I wanted to snowboard at Lotte Arai Resort but I read that it was in a very small town and basically only the resort buildings so i picked this spot because they offered a free shuttle to the nearby mountains. (Not Lotte though its a 40 minute drive and I had to get a separate bus. It was very easy though and the owner was able to help me figure it all out. If you do that route bring cash, it costs 2,000 jpy one way).
When I arrived from Tokyo it was a complete 360 in scenery. It was...
