Helms Inn, Victoria, Canada
Great gem in Victoria.
Looks like an old property, but the rooms are very well remodeled with kitchenette. Great area very close to Beacon Hill park. Parking available and very friendly staff.

Only location wins, nothing else.
It wins on location, cleanliness was average (i found cushions that weren't cleaned well). I promptly removed them. The room itself was noisy in the evenings and night as it is an old building, I could hear footsteps from above very clearly. The double glazing was minmal so traffic noise was easily heard. The room itself has a gym workout kind of smell even with the AC on. I ventilated the room but that didn't help either. We spent most of our day outside so we did not experience much of this. I regretted having booked this hotel in the end. I think all the above issues could have been easily prevented if management had an eye on this.

An Older, but Very Nice Hotel
This is an older hotel that has been very nicely redone. The location is excellent as it is near the park, the waterfront, shopping and great eateries. My room was spacious and even had a small but well equipped kitchenette.

Excellent location, poor bed quality
The location is excellent. The picturesque Beacon Hill park is across the street, the BC museum is next door, the BC Legislative building is 2 blocks away as is the stunning waterfront walk, a quant little grocery store is also nearby and tons of shopping and eating options are within walking distance. The room was roomy and had a full kitchen. The kitchen was basically stocked. It also had a separate entrance. It was good value for the area. The bathroom had a lower ceiling (about 7 ft). The room we were in was located adjacent to a laundry room. There was a continuous, intermittent dull humming from the adjacent room from the morning until bedtime. It was wearing. The bed we slept in had a permanent indentation that made sleeping extremely uncomfortable. I woke up sore every night. The pillows had way too much loft and firmness for us. The floor was dirty and we picked up 4 hairballs. The throw pillows on the bed were filthy, old and gross. The sheets ended up getting pretty dirty as my 3 year old kept climbing up and down (the dirt would come off of his socks from the dirty floor). We could hear the people above us (they were not overly loud) and it woke us up two out of three nights. There were only two chairs and three of us so we couldn't eat together. Wifi worked most of the time, but not all of the time. Bottom line: We would not stay here again because of the poor sleep quality and dirty floor.
