Historical Downtown Salerno
Step back in time while exploring Salerno's historic city centre, where medieval alleyways lead to the magnificent 11th-century cathedral. Wander through the pedestrianised Via dei Mercanti to discover family-run shops selling local ceramics and limoncello. The ancient Minerva Garden and Complex of San Pietro a Corte reveal layers of history from Roman times to the present. Family-run trattorias serve authentic Campanian cuisine throughout the area. Most accommodation is charming boutique B&Bs in converted historic palazzos with stone walls and vaulted ceilings. The entire district is walkable, though cobblestone streets make comfortable shoes essential.

Rione Duomo
Rione Duomo invites travellers to step back in time on its medieval cobblestone streets. The magnificent 11th-century Salerno Cathedral anchors this historic district with stunning Norman-Arab architecture and mosaic floors. Wander through ancient stone churches, historic palazzos, and archaeological treasures along narrow pathways that create an open-air museum experience. Traditional Campanian trattorias serve fresh seafood and handmade pasta in intimate stone-walled settings. Historic palazzo conversions and boutique hotels offer charming accommodation with period details. The area is best explored on foot, as its narrow medieval streets limit vehicle access but provide easy connections to Salerno's main transit hub.

Pastena
Pastena offers an authentic slice of Italian life away from tourist crowds, with tree-lined streets and local charm. Port of Pastena and Salerno Beach beckon for waterfront strolls, while area cafes serve espresso to locals chatting on sun-dappled balconies. Teatro Nazionale dei Burattini adds cultural flair to this laid-back residential area. Budget-friendly accommodation make Pastena perfect for value-conscious travellers, with rates significantly lower than Salerno's historic centre. Regular buses connect you to city centre attractions and the main train station in just 15 minutes. Authentic trattorias and family-run pizzerias serve traditional Campanian cuisine without the tourist markup.

Torrione
Torrione offers a peaceful escape from Salerno's tourist buzz while keeping you close to the action. Stroll along the eastern waterfront promenade for breathtaking Mediterranean views or dip your toes in at Salerno Beach. This authentic residential area lets you experience real Italian daily life with its family-run trattorias and local rhythms. The area boasts budget-friendly B&Bs and holiday rentals that won't empty your wallet. Local buses connect you easily to Salerno's historic centre and train station. After dinner at area pizzerias, join locals for a relaxing evening passeggiata along the Lungomare.

Carmine
Carmine's ancient streets tell centuries of stories through weathered limestone facades and wrought-iron balconies. The magnificent 11th-century Duomo anchors this authentic quarter of Salerno with its Norman-Arab architecture and intricate bronze doors. Medieval churches hide around every cobblestone corner, offering peaceful sanctuaries from the outside world. Explore at your own pace through narrow alleys where daily Italian life unfolds. Family-run trattorias serve traditional Campanian cuisine, closing midday for siesta before reopening for evening meals. Small artisan shops offer local ceramics and regional specialities at reasonable prices. While public transit is limited, the walkable historic layout makes exploring a delight. The train station is just a 15-minute stroll away.

Suite 39 Guest House
"Really good choice , room, staff and distance from everything!!"
Casa Santangelo Suites
"Casa santangelo was great. Close proximity to the beach and great restaurants all within walking distance. Felt very safe. Even though the street gets very busy in the evening to late night it’s still surprisingly very quiet. Angelo was very helpful and accommodating and would respond in a timely manner, which was very much appreciated. Despite being a walk up it wasn’t very difficult to navigate. I would return should I visit Salerno again, and would highly recommend others to stay here too!"

"Clean"
Villa Poseidon Boutique Hotel & Events
"4 person room was ample and the view was amazing. Breakfast was nicely presented and not rushed. The pool area was well maintained and great for relaxing in, the water was a tad chilly getting to get into but great to cool down in after the hottest summer on record! All staff incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, with nothing too much bother to research if requested. The walk into the town (and therefore back up again in the evening) was the only downside but with careful planning this could be just once/day and the escalators going part of the way back up certainly helped! Definitely worth the money and we highly recommend."
B&B Il Faro
"Danielle was amazing!! Very kind and extremely helpful. Would recommend"
Hotel Bruman Salerno
"Property was as advertised. Room was clean. The convenience to the train station was the best part."
Hotel Polo Nautico
"We used this hotel for Amalfi coast visit. Hotel is located well and took about 10 to 15 min by taxi from the train station and the ferry dock. There was no Uber or lyft and we used a local taxi(10 to 20 euro dependingon the traffic). The room looked a bit outdated, but well maintained and clean. There are a lot of mosquitoes in the season, but this facility is the only one provided the mosquito stick vaporizer for the room and the electric mosquito trap in the hallway. The hotels we stayed in Italy never provided them . The breakfast was even better than other places and the view was great. The staff was very kind and helped me to arrange a local taxi because we had to be at the station in time. There are variety of choices for the restaurants nearby but the most of them open 6:30 or 7:00 for the dinner."
B&B IGEA Home Salerno
"We had an absolutely wonderful stay! Everything was perfect from start to finish. The location is excellent, making it easy to explore the area, and the accommodation was spotless, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. The staff was truly amazing—kind, welcoming, and always willing to help with anything we needed. They made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Their hospitality really made our stay special. This was such a lovely experience, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. We highly, highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you for making our trip so memorable! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Salerno
- Book for the cheapest times: Salerno is an affordable destination on a budget, particularly in January, February and December, when hotel prices may drop to lower prices. A stay of at least 3 to 4 days is great value for money to explore the city's notable landmarks, history and culture. The marina, port, and various sightseeing spots along with historical sites, natural parks, hilly areas, and secluded corners of the countryside provide a rich cultural experience, and a ferry ride might also enhance your visit.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: Hotels.com offers travellers a chance to explore attractive hotel deals in Salerno. You may discover enticing rates by visiting the DealsOpens in a new window section and could find further savings through the Last-Minute Deals area, where special promotions are updated regularly. For a more informed choice, the Smart Shopping tool available on the app helps you compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you’re more likely to seize a last-minute opportunity when rooms become available or prices drop.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate depending on various factors, including the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year. Therefore, being flexible with your travel dates could help you find a more favourable rate for your stay in a hotel in Salerno. For those seeking a distinctive experience, boutique hotels can provide a more personalised touch and sometimes offer better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could lead to a more affordable option.
- Consider your location: Hotels in close proximity to the city centre usually command higher prices, but with Salerno's excellent public transport links, you might find a more affordable independent hotel further afield that remains well-connected. For those wishing to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby cities, there is often excellent value for money. Opting for these alternative destinations could offer a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
