Silver Lake is a beautiful location, and Kit Carson Lodge was the perfect one-night escape from the Sacramento heat. We stayed in a basic four-room lodge building - ideal if you don't plan on spending much time indoors. The shared balcony has canvas dividers that provide visual privacy, though you can still hear your neighbors. That said, the sunrise view from the deck was spectacular!
The grounds are well-kept and the restaurant is excellent; we enjoyed delicious dinner and breakfast outdoors overlooking the lake. However, there were a few downsides: our bed felt old and uncomfortable, the screen door was bent (inviting mosquitoes), and the beach lounge chairs were in very poor condition. Also, be aware that you have to walk back up to the store to rent watercraft rather than paying at the beach, and the campfire isn't a nightly occurrence. The staff were all very helpful and nice.
Overall, we had a good stay and would consider returning - next time, we'll likely opt for a private cabin with a kitchen.
