4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Durham

  1. Book for the cheapest times: The most budget-friendly time to visit Durham is during January, February, and December, when hotel prices tend to be lower. For those looking to delve into the city's rich history and vibrant culture, a stay of at least 2 to 3 days is recommended. This duration allows visitors to explore key landmarks such as the magnificent cathedral, enjoy the scenic river walks, and experience the local dining scene, all while appreciating the friendly atmosphere and the charm of the university. With its affordable offerings, Durham provides great value for money for travellers on a budget, particularly during these off-peak months when prices may drop.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To uncover last-minute deals to Durham, begin by exploring the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute Deals sections on Hotels.com, where you may discover discounted hotel options as your travel date approaches. To stay informed about flash sales and special promotions, consider enabling email alerts or push notifications from Hotels.com. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you're more likely to see the best options. With these features, you'll be among the first to know if rooms become available or if prices drop, making it easier to book that spontaneous getaway.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices may vary according to factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and time of year, so being flexible with your dates could help you save on your stay in a Durham hotel. For those seeking something distinctive, boutique hotels may provide a more personalised experience and occasionally offer better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average, and if it appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest more affordable dates to help you find a better deal.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Durham's excellent public transport connections, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel located a bit further out that remains well-connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often great value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
