The neighborhood's tree-lined streets create natural canopies of Spanish moss and oak, perfect for unhurried walks. Visit the Savannah Stage Company, Cultural Arts Gallery, or St. Phillips Monumental AME Church for a taste of local culture. Charming bed & breakfasts in restored Victorian mansions offer intimate stays with period furnishings and personalised service. The quiet, residential atmosphere provides a genuine glimpse into Southern living, away from tourist crowds.

Moon River District
The Moon River District invites you to slow down with scenic waterfront paths that hug the Intracoastal Waterway. Butter Bean Beach offers peaceful riverside spots perfect for watching boats glide by. History buffs can explore Wormsloe Historic Site with its dramatic oak-lined entrance, while nature lovers will appreciate the nearby marshlands and Skidaway Island State Park's walking trails. Dining options are limited to casual waterfront spots and area cafes that locals love. Most travellers stay in holiday rentals or waterfront cottages that capture authentic Southern coastal charm. You'll need a car to get around, as city centre Savannah is a peaceful 15-20 minute drive away.
Ardsley Park-Chatham Crescent
Ardsley Park-Chatham Crescent invites you to stroll through a storybook of early 20th-century homes. The wide, tree-lined streets showcase stunning Colonial Revival, Tudor, and Craftsman architecture beneath a canopy of majestic live oaks. You won't find tourist attractions here - just peaceful pavements perfect for morning walks and glimpses of lush private gardens behind historic facades. This residential haven offers mainly boutique bed & breakfasts in converted historic homes with period furnishings and garden settings. While dining options within the area are sparse, city centre Savannah's restaurants and River Street attractions are just a short drive away. The area's excellent walkability and quiet atmosphere make it perfect for travellers seeking an authentic, peaceful retreat.

Historic Downtown Savannah

Restaurants dish up classic southern comfort food from shrimp and grits to fried green tomatoes. Boutique hotels and converted B&Bs in historic buildings offer character-filled stays throughout the walkable district. The free DOT shuttle connects major attractions, though exploring on foot lets you soak up the neighborhood's timeless atmosphere.

Ancient oaks drip with Spanish moss above 22 historic squares where locals gather on wrought-iron benches to watch the world pass by. Forsyth Park's iconic fountain provides the perfect backdrop for photos before exploring the riverfront, where converted cotton warehouses now house shops and restaurants. Ghost tours reveal the city's haunted reputation after dark, with guides pointing out supposedly spirit-filled mansions. The First African Baptist Church offers a powerful glimpse into history with its sanctuary dating to 1859. Don't miss the Telfair Museums or wandering through the Colonial Park Cemetery. "Front desk staff and breakfast staff were AMAZING! Rooms were clean and location was perfect. We were able to walk to everything we did and everyplace we ate. Breakfast was good and they have 24 hour coffee. Housekeeping was another story....we stayed 6 nights and they never showed up until the last evening we were there and just gave us clean towels and took some trash while we were there in the room. Pool is tiny but great. Could definitely use more than 4 lounge chairs."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Savannah
- Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable time to visit Savannah is during January, November, and December, when hotel prices tend to be lower. This duration allows visitors to experience key landmarks, such as the historic riverfront, stunning cathedrals, and charming churches, along with engaging tours, fascinating museums, vibrant art scenes, and lively dancing opportunities. With its budget-friendly offerings, Savannah provides great value for money while immersing guests in its captivating culture and heritage.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To uncover last-minute deals to Savannah, begin by exploring the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute Deals sections on Hotels.com, where you may discover discounted hotel rates as your travel date approaches. Consider enabling email alerts or push notifications from Hotels.com to remain informed about flash sales and special last-minute promotions, which could help you save. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you have the best options at your fingertips. This way, if rooms become available or prices drop, you'll be among the first to know, making it easier to secure your getaway.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may vary depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating and the time of year, so being flexible with your dates could help you save on your stay at a hotel in Savannah. For those in search of a distinctive experience, boutique hotels might offer a more personalised touch and occasionally even better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average, and if it is on the higher side, we may suggest more affordable dates to help you potentially find a better deal.
- Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive. However, with Savannah's excellent public transport links, you might discover a more affordable independent hotel located further out that remains well connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often great value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
