Ishikawa Prefectural Noh Theater, located right next to the scenic Kenrokuen gardens, brings Kanazawa's traditional Noh culture into the present. You can see both Noh, a type of theatre where the plot develops with music, chanting, and dance, and Kyogen, in which plot develops mainly through conversation. For more information on the performance schedule, check the Ishikawa Prefectural Noh Theater website.

Kazuemachi
A teahouse district that comes to life at night
- History
- Nightlife
- Photo
Kazuemachi along the Asano River is one of 3 teahouse districts in Kanazawa (the others are Higashi and Nishi). This area is very quiet during the day, but in the evening you’ll hear the sound of shamisen (a Japanese 3-stringed instrument) and drums played by geisha girls as the teahouses, small restaurants, and bars begin to light up.
The teahouses are not open to first-time visitors, but you can spend the evening at atmospheric bars such as Bar Nagaya and Kiku no Shizuku, which were made by renovating traditional terraced townhouses. Exploring the riverside Kyoka no Michi Street and the quaint backstreets and Kuragarizaka Slope is another great way to enjoy a night in Kazuemachi.
