What you need to know before you go

Phonsavan serves as the capital of Xieng Khouang Province in northeast Laos. Founded in the 1970s, the town has a mountainous landscape – the southern side of the plateau is where you can find the 2,820-metre-tall Phou Bia, which is the highest peak in Laos.

There are several villages of colourful wooden houses dotting the picturesque countryside of Phonsavan. One of the town’s most popular attractions is the iconic Plain of Jars site, located 25 km south of the town centre.
