      Overall ok. The beds were uncomfortable. We made a noise complaint because there was a party in the hotel room next to us. Guest services was responsive and quick to address.

      Disappointed

      This hotel is the most lackluster Kimpton I’ve stayed in. You can get much nicer hotels in San Diego for the same price. I’m honestly so disappointed. The room was tiny with an old/ small tv and the bed was so uncomfortable. The bathroom only has a sliding glass door and it doesn’t even shut all the way so there’s no privacy. Valet was $50 a day and there was a $25 amenity fee even though the restaurant was closed. They don’t tell you that they have $10 in f&b credit or walk you through what’s included in your stay at all. We also had two seperate reservations for Friday and Saturday. I asked to merge them and they said they did but on Saturday we were locked out of our room and had to see the front desk. No apology or anything. I would never stay here again.

      DISAPPOINTED!!!

      If I could do a zero I would!! Hotel has the appearance to be "nice" especially for the price. Room definitely need to be upgraded! Watching TV from bed we need glasses to watch because the size of the tv and the distance to be the bed HORRIBLE. There was a large slit on our wall we had to get a chair to investigate. It appeared to be an uncovered air vent and starting distorting the wall. The towels felt like sandpaper on our bodies, ouch! Calcium build up all over your the floors. Curtains old, discolored and need to be replaced. To top it all off our trip was cut short because we woke up to a tick in our room. Yes a real life tick that was NOT there yesterday. The thought of waking up to tick disgusted me to the fullest! Do not waste your money!!!!

      The hotel was in a state of disrepair. Carpets ripped in the hallway, scratched floors, dirty curtains and stained furniture. I will never stay here again.

      Understaffed?

      Sink was clogged 5 minutes after arrival. Concierge, front desk, in-room dining all were unavailable from the time we arrived until we left for the evening. It seemed like there were not enough staff, which seems to be a problem everywhere. A little disappointing for that level of a room to not have basics like a nespresso machine or keurig. We went back home to sleep in our own home. Would not be our choice for a staycation.

      I had such a great stay in the heart of San Diego. Palomar is perfectly situated right between the Gaslamp District and Little Italy so options for great dining and entertainment are plenty! I loved my room and the views of downtown.

      Kimpton lost a customer forever. So unnecessary

      I very rarely publicly criticize brands but one of the brands I have adored since their founding in the Bay Area. KIMPTON HOTELS, lost me and my company as a brand forever. I have been traveling for over 30 years and “early check in” has always been complimentary if a room was empty the night before. This has ALWAYS been the case at every hotel I have stayed at, on every continent. This specific. Hotel the Palomar in San Diego, I have frequented at least 20 nights over the past two years, not including my employee stays. In short we have spent $35,000 at this hotel minimum over the last two years. So this morning, imagine my shock when I was told by a very kind front desk manager that I had to pay a FULL DAY RATE to check-in early. He told me the new manager implemented this policy recently. Since I have a huge day in the studio, I kindly asked him to inform the manager that he just lost a loyal Kimpton customer forever and he also cost his brand a corporate account. Short term financial thinking costing a company a long term customer. Ridiculous.

      Look elsewhere - many better options available

      Booked 3 nights for a couples vacation in San Diego. Was deciding between this property and the nearby Carte Hotel. both had similar feel and amenities listed but decided to go with Palomar since a Kimpton would be a little nicer and cooler than the Carte which was a Hilton. I ended up regretting that decision almost as soon as we arrived. As others have pointed out, property has a very dated feel and looks rundown, especially in common areas like the lobby. On check-in, staff were friendly but seemed pretty clueless on the basics of hospitality. Eg - asked if there were any upgrades available, woman at counter seemed confused by the request until another clerk handed her a printout and asked "what was I looked for?" When it became clear they were looking at a rate card, I said "complementary" at which point I got a very abrupt "No complimentary upgrades!" reply. No mention of parking situation, nor need to book housekeeping 24 hours in advance, and oh BTW, we don't have any food cause kitchen still closed (also not mentioned on website) cause you know Covid. The do have small breakfast options - bagels, pastries, etc - but clearly run by people who've never been in food service before. Wrong orders everything takes forever. No problems with checkout but again everything took forever! How bout sending me an email with bill and allowing to checkout online? Clerk was helpful but never asked how our stay was. Staff not trained, no management or systems support.
