Really scary location
The location is unfortunately in desolate and deserted downtown Oakland. Also, the front desk checkin woman was rude and completely unpleasant. No greeting and acted like she wanted to be doing anything except working. The hotel feels like a fortress because of the bad area. There was a shooting 1 block away the night we stayed. I used to love Oakland and the Bay Area, not anymore…

Nice hotel in a sketchy place
The hotel condition is new and the facilities are clean. HOWEVER, the location is VERY sketchy, AND the hotel does not have its own parking. You will need to shell out additional $50 for overnight valet parking that is operated by a different company. Otherwise, street parking is the only other option. From what I was told, there are plenty of break-in's. The hotel front door is locked 24/7 should be a very good warning sign. This hotel must be a slightly higher end drug addicts' favorite. Although the facility is super clean, there were plenty of very sketchy characters checking in the evening. The lobby and elevators all smell like marijuana. I would not recommend this for family stay at all. Business? - where are you going to park?! The valet parking also have low height limits.

The premises were clean and i felt safe. There were many food choices nearby. Lake Merritt is just blocks away, and there were cultural activities going on nearby during the evenings with many families out and about. The only downside isvthe $50 parking per night, but just use BART, rideshare, or the train - public transportation is good.

Good hotel in downtown Oakland
We had a nice stay at this hotel. The location is very central to downtown Oakland. Unfortunately, this property doesn't have a parking lot, although they do offer valet parking. The staff were nice and competent. Breakfast was a standard Hampton Inn breakfast. The property and rooms were clean. The area around the hotel is a little scary, especially at night, in line with Oakland.
