Scary posts about tourist safety aside, this is a super fun city. I felt safe at all times. Exuberant people. Abundant natural beauty. Tour providers were excellent in value and communication. Don't miss Favela, Paqueta' island or Ilha Grande tours.

Despite the complicated reputation of Rio, I have always fell safe. People are friendly and more than often willing to lend a hand and to ensure you have a good time. The beach! The restaurants!!! The people. This alone makes Rio a great vacation

It's amazing with lots to do. Enjoy some relaxing days but make sure to do plenty of the activities, hikes and excursions on offer. We found everyone very friendly and helpful. We felt safe throughout and had no bad experiences. We loved it all.

Much safer than you read about online or see on the news. Use common sense and you should encounter no real problems. After 3 months, I have had a very successful trip here. Would absolutely recommend a visit to Río and Copacabana/Ipanema/Leblon.

Take a copy of your passport everywhere. If you are over 60 you get to use the preferential lanes in markets, and for touristic places like the Pao de Azucar and the Corcovado. This saves a huge amount of time.

Loved Rio but you must be careful. Do not wear jewellery or watches. Dress down and don't wander around with your phone out. All the sites were great - Christ, Santa Teresa, the cathedral, selaron steps.

Rio is a gorgeous and artisitc and inspiring city, but locals frequently cite fears surrounding theft and violence. While I did not experience it, the threat looms around the atmosphere.

The city views from the top of the near-by moutain tops are incredible. The city has a high energy not encoutered elsewhere. Prices are relatively low: Uber for instance is $4-5 for a half hour ride. Museums are free or low-cost. Interesting history.

Rio is amazing the beach, night life you can have a great time. Don't wave your phone around and be mindful of your surroundings; a lot of the locals speak some English everyone is friendly and helpful except for a few bad actors so just be smart

"Everything perfect. Although you can't stay inside in Rio, it is important for me for hotel to have a gym. This one has a lousy one, very small, better not having it."
"Had a great time!! Copacabana is clean and super easy to walk around we nerved felt unsafe, I thought I was going to regret not staying at Ipanema but we didn’t. Hotel is in the older side could use a bit of refurbishing but it compensates with the friendly staff, delicious and vast morning breakfast and absolutely gorgeous views. Hotel has a free beach area that provides umbrellas, towels and chairs and even let me children borrow a ball to play with
We will definitely come back!!

"🇺🇸 As an American visiting Brazil, I felt very safe and welcomed. Everyone was super nice, helpful, and friendly. The nightlife here is 🔥 busy — especially since you’re right in the city center. If you’re hoping for a quiet, relaxing night, just know this area stays active late 🌃.
📍 You’re walking distance to popular spots like the Arches of Lapa and the Selarón Steps 🎨, which is perfect for sightseeing. Breakfast 🍽️ in the mornings is nice, though it can get a little repetitive if you’re staying for a while. The staff was always accommodating and kind 🙌.
🛏️ The room itself was nice and comfortable, but the bathroom 🚽 felt a little dated — the toilet showed some yellowing and could use an upgrade. There were snacks 🍫 and drinks in the room, but they’re pricey 💸. It’s better to grab the same things at a local supermarket 🛒 for way cheaper.
🏊♂️ I wish the pool and gym 🏋️♀️ stayed open 24 hours (they close at 10 PM ⏰). But with Brazil’s famous beaches 🏖️ like Flamengo, Copacabana, Ipanema, and more nearby, you’ll have plenty of options to enjoy during the day 🌞.
Overall, it’s a fun and convenient spot if you want to be in the heart ❤️ of the action and experience Rio’s nightlife, culture, and energy ✨."
"We stayed at the hotel with family and friends for a week to attend a wedding
It was very convenient, in a safe area and is well maintained. the housekeeping staff do a great job
We ate at Canto several times - Food and service is excellent
During our stay there was a festival lunch in the Grand Ballroom - the buffet spread, music and service was marvellous
The highlight for us was The Grand Club. Such helpful, kind and pleasant staff and a good selection of food at breakfast and cocktail hour,
Only negative was that despite booking numerous rooms, an upgrade for two nights was declined, apart "
