    Just a room for the night - nothing special

    We were in Belize for the week, but stayed most of the week in Ambergris Caye. Decided to stay in Belize City the last day of our trip to get a feel for the city and to be closer to the airport. The check in was very good. I noticed a van/shuttle out front which I recalled from my research. I asked about the shuttle service and was told that guest hd to pay the hotel $20 (US) per person to be transported to the airport. Definitely not what I would expect from somewhere I am already paying to stay. BTW, the local taxi only charges $25 for your group. On the way to the room, we had to dodge the 2 buckets collecting water dripping from the ceiling in a hallway. Our room was spacious and clean. There was also a nice view of the water. The Sleep Number bed controls did not work. We had the a/c on max all night but it never got cold. I was waiting for the opportunity to provide immedicate feedback when we checked out the next morning, but was never asked, "How was your stay?". This leads me to believe that they really don't care either way so I said nothing. Overall, it was a room for the night - nothing special. With tourism down across the globe, you would think that establishments would want to guest they ARE seeing a little better than average.

    As already mentioned the airport pickup was very late in arriving and took several calls and emails to arrange in the first place. I tried to book some tours around Belize but as a solo traveler they said their contractors would charge me double (ie charge min of two people) but if you ask around other hotels and agents you can get a far better deal. Belize is near empty of tourists right now so charging someone double doesn’t seem right......that left a very negative feeling in me especially as I stayed with them for a week....

    Its a bit unfair to judge a hotel during covid, but this place answered exactly what i needed: a spacious room- with two good sized beds, 2 comfortable armchairs (a real rarity), and a desk and chair that were suitable for work. The fridge and coffee machine were all I needed. There was plenty of hot water, though the shower was a little feeble, and more than enough power outlets. The staff were friendly and helpful, all spoke English, and when the tv stopped they came to fix within a few minutes. Belize is not first world though, and guests need to allow for that.
