If you are looking for a wine-themed holiday or just a quick getaway to sample a bottle, New York has several regions known for their vineyards and wineries. First, the difference between the 2: a vineyard grows grapes to make wine, while a winery is where wine is produced. New York has got plenty of both. The state’s many lakes create climates perfect for growing grapes.

Some regions best known for their wineries and vineyards are the Hudson River Valley, the Finger Lakes, and the Niagara/Lake Erie area. The Empire State has more than 200 wineries and produces 35 million gallons of wine annually. New York wine is known for its strong flavour, high acidity, and lower alcohol content.

Bully Hill Vineyards has quite a storied history. It started when Greyton H. Taylor started Taylor Wine Co. at the very same location where Bully Hill is today. Taylor Wine Co. had already relocated, so Walter founded Bully Hill Vineyards.

There’s a lot more to the storey that won’t fit in this small space, so give yourself time to explore the museum. There’s a restaurant at the vineyard, with great views of Lake Keuka. The vineyard is located in Hammondsport and is open daily for tours and tastings.
