The Neighborhood:

De Pijp: A bustling mix of culture, cuisine and cafés.

De Pijp is starkly different from the picturesque canal district, but that is made up for by the lively and eccentric people that grace its streets. Here academics continue to mingle with artists in countless cafés, and the flourishing nightlife continues to draw people from all over the city.

The vibrant heart of De Pijp: Albert Cuypmarkt

De Pijp is perhaps most famous for the Albert Cuypmarkt. This market has been offering its wares for more than a century and vendors sell everything from fresh seafood, meat and cheese to flowers, clothes and jewellery. Stroll past the colourful stalls and sample the street food for a real Pijp experience.

With its multitude of restaurants, cafés and bars, de Pijp will leave you spoiled for culinary choice. From Middle Eastern and North African cuisine to high-end teppanyaki and Vietnamese street food, the neighbourhood’s cultural diversity shines through in its restaurants. Throw the area’s cocktail bars and beery brown cafés into the mix and you have a delicious evening planned! Beer fans also won't want to miss a tour of the former Heineken brewery, now better known as the Heineken Experience, to get a taste of the area’s brewing history.

Getting Around:

The fastest way to travel to the apartment from Schiphol is by taking the train to Amsterdam Zuid station, from there you can take bus 65 and exit at stop Scheldestraat. Just a short walk from the apartment. The trip will take you about 35 min.

Or take the train to Amsterdam Central station and take tram 24 direction VU.

Exit at Tram stop Ceintuurbaan/F Bolstraat and from there it's just a 5 min. walk.

Profile: De Pijp

Profile: De Pijp

De Pijp sits south of the Canal Ring, and although it’s only a short cycle from Central Station, the neighborhood feels like a world of its own. Here, a large immigrant community mingles with students and artists to create a cosmopolitan district that’s become the place to be in Amsterdam.

Browse the stalls of the vibrant Albert Cuyp Market, and for lunch take your pick from an eclectic range of Middle Eastern and African restaurants. Afterward, try a fresh "stroopwafel"—the famous Dutch dessert. Beer lovers should head to the Heineken Experience and sample a delicious pint or two.
